We received the following e-mail on June 18. Cheryl was at the FEMA campus taking a training course and witnessed our wreath-laying ceremony.

Thank you all for coming to the Fallen Firefighter Memorial. Even though I know so many lives are affected by the price some have paid (Military and Police as well as Fire), I was deeply touched to see you today. Thank you so much for including us in your route. I hope you have a safe trip and pray that you touch as many peoples' heart as you did mine today.

Sincerely,
Cheryl Schaffer
City of Mobile Fire Rescue Dept

We received the following e-mail on June 19. Ray is the bagpiper who met us in Washington, DC and rode with us to the Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, MD on June 18. He led us in procession to our wreath-laying ceremony and then across the FEMA compound to the 9/11 Memorial.

Doc,

I had a wonderful time. For me it was a great honor to be able to pipe for your group.

This was a double honor for me. The first was to be able to help honor the Fallen Firefighters. The second, helping your group do this.

I do hope the rest of your trip was good and everyone is safe.

And remember, if you, or anyone you know, needs a piper, please let me know.

Thanks,
Ray Exten

21 Jun 2008

Folks,

It was good to meet you today (June 21, 2008) at the Exxon Station, Roanoke, Virginia. You may recall, it was raining like hell, my wife and I were taking a break as well. (I was the guy who introduced self as District Captain here in SW Virginia for PGR). What a joy to run into fellow patriots from far away.... I sincerely hope your ride home was uneventful and that your rider who went down is healing....Your respects showed in DC are above and beyond but it is what we are all about....

Thank you to all for what you do... and thank you for honoring our fire, LEO, and soldiers....you will be present at the "Gathering of the Guard" in spirit, late August in Danville, VA....

With respect,

Jim Borling
PGR - District 2 Ride Captain
Roanoke, VA

Dick met us in Indiana at a fuel stop and rode into Tennessee before heading home.

Just a quick note to let those that rode to DC that I arrived home safe and sound last evening. It was a pleasure to meet, ride, and enjoy your company this past week. I couldn't have rode with a better group of people. 8ball and I survived the rest of the Parkway and also the Tail of the Dragon. ... We parted in Pigeon Forge, 8ball heading to Nashville and I headed home. ...

Take care All

Thanks for a great time

Dick
